Avril Lavigne Joins Guest Judging Panel for American Idol
December 3rd 2009 22:55
It seems the rotating panel of celebrity judges continues to grow for American Idol this season. The latest addition is none other than our punk princess Avril Lavigne. She will share duties with another fourth-seater Katy Perry and will sit separately to offer their suggestions to those trying to get a Golden Ticket to the show’s Hollywood round.
Lavigne joins a list of confirmed judges who will also be offering hopeful’s advice which includes Shania Twain, Mary J. Blige, Victoria Beckham, Joe Jonas, Neil Patrick Harris, and Kristin Chenoweth. Since Paula Abdul departed the fourth judging seat of the panel, show Producers haven’t announced when they will permanently fill this spot once again. With the interesting mix of celebrities already in play, it should make for an eventful and surprising season.
About a Punk Rock Princess
Avril Ramona Lavigne was born September 27, 1984 in Belleville, Ontario Canada. Lavigne has made a name for herself as a singer-songwriter, actress and most recently, a fashion designer. At the tender age of just 16, Avril moved to Manhattan New York in search of her musical calling and there began working on her debut album. While in the 11th grade, she secured a record deal and dropped out of high school to pursue her dream.
Her debut album “Let Go” released in 2002 launched Lavigne into the recording industry. As of 2009, over 16 million copies have been sold worldwide, more than 6 million of which were sold in the United States alone. Her second and third albums, “Under My Skin” and “The Best Damn Thing”, both reached number one on the Global charts. Lavigne has had several #1 singles worldwide, including "Complicated", "Sk8er Boi", "I'm With You", "My Happy Ending" and "Girlfriend".
As a petite, punky skater girl from a small town, Lavigne has shown she is self-sufficient, full of confidence and determination, definitely helping pave the way for other young women wanting to get into the music profession. One of her more popular songs "Complicated" went to number #1 on Billboard’s Top 100 while also earning her five Grammy nominations, MTV music awards, MTV European music awards and many more. She is currently finishing up her fourth studio album, set to release in early 2010.
