December 17th 2009 03:13
For the 2010 Grammy Awards it’s been announced American rock band Green Day is nominated for three awards. Their smash single “21 Guns” is up for ‘Best Rock Song’ and ‘Best Rock Performance by a Duo/Group’. Their last album 21st Century Breakdown is also nominated for ‘Best Rock Album’.
Earlier in the year, the band received recognition at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards show for “21 Guns” as well. They took home three awards winning in all three categories they were nominated for: ‘Best Rock Video’, ‘Best Cinematography’ and ‘Best Direction’. The American Music Awards were good to them as well awarding them for ‘Favorite Alternative Rock Music Artist’. Last but not least, at the 2010 People’s Choice Awards, Green Day will also be competing for the prestigious spot of ‘Best Rock Band’ of the year.
Green Day came together 22 years ago and over the course of that successful span, they’ve been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards, ultimately winning three: ‘Rock Album of the Year for the 2004 release of American Idiot; ‘Record of the Year’ for the single “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” (American Idiot); and for ‘Best Alternative Music Performance’ for the 1993 album Dookie.
As of November 30th, Green Day has had approximately 200,000 spins at Alternative radio plus an additional 1.3 million spins from all Rock formats combined. This makes them 2009’s No. 1 artist for current and recurrent catalog song spins in all Rock radio formats according to Mediabase’s year to date tallies.
On top of these announcements, Harmonix has also revealed that three more Green Day tracks will be available in the Rock Band’s in-game music store as of December 15th for the Xbox 360 and Wii and then December 17th for the Playstation 3. It looks as though fans will be getting some additional hits from the band’s latest album 21st Century Breakdown including “Christian’s Inferno”, “Last of the American Girls”, and “Viva La Gloria!”. The last two songs mentioned will also be available for Lego Rock Band.
The Grammy Awards telecast will take place on CBS the evening of January 31st, 2010 at the Los Angeles Staples Center, 8pm ET/PT. Be sure to tune in to see if your favorite artists win!
