Tremble like a Lamb

Lou Rhodes
Gaelic Club
April 10
True love. Broken Hearts. Longing. Hanging on and letting go. Lou Rhodes has been in love and she has been out of it, and she knows a thing or two about relationships. Having fronted the electro/ ambient/ trip hop inspired band: Lamb, for the past 10 years, serving up languid, otherworldly tones over synthetic beats, Lou Rhodes has gone back to her more homespun, earthy roots and pursued a solo career.
Her debut album: Beloved One was well received and her follow up, simply titled: Bloom, is highly anticipated, by fans and critics alike. Simplicity is the perfect term to use when describing Lou Rhodes. She has the ability to take complex situations and put them into a simplified, accessible form that is juxtaposed against often highly intricate melodies. She sings and her familiar, yearning lilt swims right into your heart, and nestles itself there.
Playing the Gaelic on April 10, Lou shared some old favourites and some new soon to be favourites in a small, intimate and highly ambient show. That means lots of couples and lesbians. In fact, I think I actually became a lesbian during the show, absolutely spellbound by the sensual, throaty sweetness of Lou’s voice and the honesty in her lyrics. Each Moment New is a rare gem and the story behind Fortress is both amusing and touching.
Lou doesn’t waste time. She treats every day as a blessing and is all too aware of how short life is. This acknowledgment of the fragility of life and her desire to capture every moment and seize every opportunity is deeply ingrained in her warm, acoustic sounds. Lou strikes the listener as the kind of person who is exceptionally down to earth and laid back, but also the kind of person who sees what she wants, and gets it. Her tunes are warm, haunting and inspiring. She can sing me a lullaby any time. Bloom will be out later this year.
