Punk is not dead

For anyone who is into punk/ experimental/ garage...below is a list of 5 bands you should check out:
1. The Scare
2. The Plot to Blow up the Eiffel Tower
3. Charles Rowland and the Vultures
4. Some Girls
5. The Prayers
The Scare are an Australian born and bred 5-piece hailing from Brisbane. Currently touring the United Kingdom, they play their very own brand of Garage Punk that'll scream through your head and make you wanna dance. They're a headache at the bottom of a Tequila bottle and their performances are nothing less than incendiary. Look out for them returning to Oz at the end of 06, they'll be playing Homebake and various other riotous gigs around S-town. They, like every band these days that are worth a damn can be found on Myspace. Give em a yell and they'll say hi to the Queen for you...Their second EP "Vacuum Irony" is available now.
The Plot to Blow up the Eiffel Tower came screaming onto our shores last November and are looking to return in early 07. The play a musical mish mash of experimental punk, garage, jazz and their performances can only be described as a psychotic sexual frenzy of musical mayhem. Their first offering "Dissertation, Honey" is a jazzed up, angry shot of anarchy laced with trimmings of mellow hip hop. Their second offering, "Love in the Fascist Brothel" is a cacophony of sound that is guaranteed to get your rocks off. Defying definition, the Plot breathe new life into the San Diego music scene.
Charles Rowland and the Vultures. Hot, sexy and sharp. They do glam in a way that'll make your knees weak. "Vulture Land" is a keeper, as is "Let them Bleed." Check them out before they become too cool for school.
I saw Some Girls a couple of months ago at Spectrum in Sydney and my eardrums are still recovering. Looking like a mixture of 50's T-birds and 90's college Jocks they deliver a completely unexpected sound that even the hardest of gig goers would flinch at. Hysteria and nosebleeds. If that's what you're into, then buy their album, "xo skeleton". It'll hurt so good.
The Prayers. I've rekindled my faith in the music scene with this new band from San Diego. Who knew one little city could deliver so much musical talent? These guys are an interesting little four-piece who are doing something old and making it something new. Classifying their music category as "other", it is this very push towards otherness that makes them unique. They're not afraid to try something new and in an industry that has succumbed to corporate giants and the ever lucrative hit factory, that's a breath of fresh air. Their songs are all new and diverse and yet somehow nostalgic. You'll dance, you'll cry...you'll say your prayers with a newfound vigour that you never thought possible. Check them out.
All these bands can be found on Myspace. If you don't have a Myspace...you're crazy. Register at www.myspace.com. It's free and will make you cooler.
