The Temper Trap Take Over Spectrum

The Temper Trap. I wrote about these guys a while ago. They are a really good band. You should see them. Everyone should see them. Enough said…Well, not really. The Temper Trap are an indie/ ambient/ pop explosion that will get your toes tapping and have your ears screaming for more. Hell, you might even throw an article of clothing on stage if you weren’t so entranced by their melodic tunes, and that haunting voice. Sporting catchy riffs, and vocals that swing between angelic crooning and yearning madness, it’s been a while since I’ve heard a voice so capable.

They hit Spectrum on Saturday night, and they hit it hard. Supported by Newcastle band: The Instant and Sydney band: Tokenview, The Temper Trap know how to put on a show and they really enjoy it too. Revisiting old favourites such as Peter Parker’s Alter Ego and My Sun, and throwing in some stellar new tracks, The Temper Trap are defying the inferences of their own band name and really branching out into something new, experimenting with new directions and an evolving sound.

And it always helps to be supported by The Instant, who rocked as usual. With the aid of their background visuals (see jump cuts and random images), you tend to wonder if this might not have been Salvador Dali’s favourite band were he alive today. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised to see any of the Surrealist artists of the past haunting the hallways as these guys perform. It’s always new and it’s always sharp.

If you haven’t seen either of these bands before (I am currently giving you my disappointed face), but for The Temper Trap think The Mars Volta meets Muse and for The Instant think a party at Andy Warhol’s with a Kubrick dress-up theme. Now get out and see these bands before they take over the world and your MP3 Player.
